Ashton Lane
Situated behind Hillhead Subway station, Ashton Lane is a wee cobbled street just off Byres Road that is dotted with numerous hang out spots ranging from bars to restaurants and even a cinema.
The Ashton lane environment is characterised by lively music, the aroma of sweet smelling food and the laughter of customers which tends to lure and attract passersby to indulge in its zest. Its friendly atmosphere perhaps accounts for its busy outlook especially at night.
For individuals looking to try out absolutely fantastic Indian cuisines the famous Ashoka on the Ashton lane is just the right stop.
The Grosvenor Cinema is another major attraction to Ashton lane. It is especially favoured by students who generally tend to be regulars at Ashton lane. The cinema has two viewing screens on the ground floor and can accommodate over a 100 viewers. A major distinguishing feature is the back row of leather sofas which are available for hire during movie times that gives one the cosy homely feeling.
Glasgow Botanic Gardens
For a serenely, airy and beautifully coloured atmosphere to relax the botanic garden is just the place especially on a sunny day in the summer. It is a major tourist attraction and once out off the Hillhead subway, it is just at the north end of Byres Road.
The garden has over time been used for various recreational activities like musical concerts and entry to this magnificent garden is absolutely free.
Within its premises is the Kibble Palace fondly called the big glasshouse.
Kibble Palace
The Kibble Palace which was recently restored is one of the major glass structures in Britain and it serves as a green house to cultivate plants of prehistoric background dating as far back as 120 years. It holds a good number of quality plant collections with the Australasian tree ferns being the most nationally treasured collection in its possession.
The botanic garden is a beautifully serene place to take walks around while seeping in the soothing colours and fresh mixture of flower scents. It is a truly relaxing experience and as such, it is a favourite spot for many outdoor lovers.
