From modern burger bars to authentic Italian eateries the west end of the city has something to suit every palate. Byres Road and Ashton Lane are the focal points of this area with everything from relaxed and friendly to posh and polite. Award winning favourites include, Ubiquitous Chip, the city’s purveyor of Scottish fare, and thirty-year-old Italian ristorante, La Parmigiana. This family-owned AA Rosette restaurant is a short walk away from Kelvinbridge Underground and offers traditional Italian fare using the freshest British ingredients.
The west end has a multitude of options for a leisurely lunch. Diners will delight in the variety of choice from cute cafes to delicatessens and individual restaurants. Enjoy some traditional pub grub; from cheap eats in a local student bar to gourmet gastro-pub cuisine.
Cail Bruich is a great little place on Great Western Road near Byres Road which has become very popular at the weekends. Be sure to book a table as this place fills up fast with hungry locals and visitors who have heard of the restaurant’s interesting seasonal pre-theatre and A la carte menus. Cail Bruich is Gaelic for ‘eat well’ and family team Paul and Christopher Charalambous ensure that their patrons are more than satisfied.
Take a short stroll along the road to Ashton Lane and you will come across another member of the Glasgow restaurant hall of fame. The Ubiquitous Chip is a multi award-winning restaurant and still the city's favourite place for venison and seafood. Food is served in a foliage filled courtyard patio with relaxing water feature accompaniment. Upstairs at the Chip there is a Bistro which is much easier on the purse strings.
Lesser known eatery, An Lochan serves up fresh seafood and game from local suppliers. This quaint restaurant is situated on Crow Road, only a short walk from Victoria Park. The restaurant has picked up an assortment of accolades that prove its appeal to foodies across Scotland including an inclusion in the respected Which Good Food Guide. An Lochan’s food speaks for itself and offers a refreshing alternative to the larger restaurants in the city centre.
