TITANIC: Honour and Glory

The Story of The Tragic Liner & Her Sister Ships

Sat 18th September 2010 - February 2011
10.00am-5.00pm

Admission £3.00 (concession £2.00)

The Tall Ship is proud to host TITANIC: Honour & Glory, a national touring
exhibition dedicated to the famously ill-fated luxury liner. The exhibition is
the largest private collection of Titanic artefacts in Scotland and features
a diverse range of stunning and very rare pieces from Titanic, her
sister ships Olympic and Britannic and the legendary White Star Line
shipping company. Items include chinaware, silverware, postcards written
on board and a gold pocket watch belonging to Titanic’s head waiter.
In addition to original artefacts from the ships, the exhibition also
includes magnificent props and costumes from Avatar director James
Cameron’s 1997 movie Titanic, including a beautiful necklace worn by
Kate Winslet in the film. Enter our competition to win a limited edition
replica necklace of your own or even recreate ‘that scene’ from the film
and stand, arms spread, on a specially built bow of Titanic and declare
“My Heart Will Go On!” Come face to face with history as you discover
the story of Titanic through genuine artefacts recovered from her wreck,
personal accounts and awe inspiring examples of luxurious interior
fittings. The exhibition is also accompanied by a range of educational
activities and an illustrated series of lectures. Rare pieces will be
unveiled for the very first time as Titanic meets The Tall Ship!

Description

The Tall Ship, or her real name The Glenlee began life in 1896, the same year as the Glasgow Subway.

a Clydebuilt ship, she was launched into the Clyde in 1896 and served much of her time as a cargo ship.  Sailing all over the world and travelling round Cape Horn 15 times.

Owned for some years by the Spanish, the Glenlee was purchased and returned home to Glasgow, where she is currently docked beside the Clyde Helicopter Base.

She will undergo major renovations towards the end of 2010 and in 2011 is due to make her way up the Clyde to sit alongside the new mirrored Museum of Transport, where she will be reflected in her full glory.
